General
In Singapore, ABC Dry Powder extinguishers have been renamed to AB Dry Powder extinguishers, though the contents remain the same.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has clarified that Class C extinguishers should no longer be labeled for use on electrical fires. This is because Class C (flammable gases) and Class E (electrical) fires can reignite almost immediately if the heat source is still active.
SCDF advises that the first step in handling a Class C or E fire is to turn off the source — such as shutting off the gas supply or cutting off electricity. If flames persist after eliminating the source, the fire is likely a Class A (solid combustibles) or Class B (flammable liquids) fire, which can then be safely extinguished.
As a result, Class C and Class E fire symbols are no longer permitted on newly manufactured fire extinguishers in Singapore.
